Verdie Grey Blackwell
Verdie Grey Blackwell passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in Mandeville, LA. He was born on December 8, 1930 in Franklinton, LA to the late Greal Blackwell and Mary Stafford Blackwell.

Verdie was the beloved husband of the late Mildred Martin Blackwell. He was the loving brother of Bobby Blackwell, Margie Jones, the late Vernon Blackwell, and Billy Blackwell. Verdie was the uncle of Debbie Morgan, Keith Cox, and Jimmy Cox (Sandy).

Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow the service at Blackwell Cemetery, Mockingbird Hill Rd., Folsom, LA.


Paul Mitchell Boone
Paul Mitchell Boone passed away at his residence in Bogalusa, La on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the age of 84. He was born in Sandy Hook, MS on July 10, 1936.

He retired from GM&O Railroad after 30 years and Rayburn Correctional Institute after 20 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharon “Shey” Boone of Bogalusa, LA, Paula Gaye (Mike) Boone of Bogalusa, LA, and Deona Boone Pittman of Bogalusa, LA; his grandchildren, Krystal Boone Oalmann, Jonathan Pittman, Jessica Pittman; and his great granddaughter, Sheylah Oalmann.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Duncan Boone; parents, Homer & Ollie Boone, his son, Frederick Lee Boone, and Son-in-law, Albert Boone, Jr.

Services celebrating his life will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the funeral service begins at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Larry Lassley will officiate. Interment to follow at Ponemah Cemetery.

Military honors will be presented by Magic City American Legion Post #24.

Dennis James Daugereaux
Dennis James Daugereaux passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 67. He was born on Friday, June 19, 1953 in Mamou, Louisiana to the late Verdie and Joseph Daugereaux. He was a resident of Hammond, Louisiana. He was a devout Catholic who loved to pray the rosary and regularly attended St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. He was devoted to his loving wife of 35 years and adored his daughter, Sadie. Dennis was known to be a model of strength of kindness to all. His gentle soul has touched the lives of many and will live on to inspire others for years to come.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Tangee Daugereaux; daughter, Sadie Daugereaux; sister, Patricia Daugereaux; brother, David Daugereaux (Edwina); nephews, Joseph Daugereaux (Kelly) and André Daugereaux (Beka); great-nieces and nephews, Isaac, Whitley, and Amelia; and mother and father-in-law, Rita Bass and Guy Baldassaro.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Daugereaux; mother, Verdie Duplechin; nephew, Christopher; Nanny, Emmay Lefluer; paternal grandparents, Esther and Levy Daugereaux; and his maternal grandparents.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, 100 W Magnolia Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, beginning at 8:30 AM Until 10:30 AM. Mass will be held the same day at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, 30300 Catholic Hall Road, Albany, Louisiana 70711.

Interment will follow in St. Margaret Catholic Church Cemetery, Albany, Louisiana.

Velma Barton Davidson
Velma, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on October 16, 1934 in Clio, LA and lived her entire life there. She married the love of her life, Faust, in 1951 and they were married 69 years. Velma was a wonderful cook and homemaker and later dedicated over 30 years in the education field. She adored her family and always made sure they had everything they needed. Velma was an exceptional wife, mother, and grandmother who will be forever missed.

Velma is survived by her husband, Edwin Faust Davidson; son, Albert Kennard Davidson and wife Lucille; granddaughters, Yvette Davidson Hill and husband James, Charlene McCarroll; great-granddaughter, Sophie Elaine Hill; and sister, Gail Vauclin

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawton E. Barton Sr. and Mary Glover Barton; brothers, Lawton E. Barton Jr., Glen Barton, Thevis Barton; and sister, Florence Wallace.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maud and Mary Memorial Fund of Huff Chapel at 30000 Huff Chapel Rd, Springfield, LA 70462 in honor of Mrs. Velma.

Shannon Joseph Louque
Shannon Joseph Louque, 51, a native of Paulina, LA and a resident of Hammond, LA passed away peacefully with his children by his side on November 19, 2020. He was passionate and loved playing music, especially his bass guitar. Shannon was a huge Saints fan and enjoyed watching football on Sunday’s. He loved boiling crawfish for his family and friends. Shannon was a loving friend, brother, father, and grandfather. He was best known for his cheesy jokes and goofy personality.

Shannon is survived by his three children: son, Ethan Louque, daughter, Sydnie Louque Decou (Phillip), and son, Hunter Louque; ex-wife, Stacie Colgan Louq; sisters, Dawn Louque Usea (Hanson), Chasity Louque Berthelot (John); brother, Chad Louque (Trisha); his two beautiful grandchildren, Brinley Decou and Logan W. Louque; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Logan Joseph and Lucy Everett Louque; grandparents, Logan and Ina Roper Louque, Willie and Armentine Everett; and son, baby Louque.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of North Oaks Medical Center Hospital of Hammond. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Ochsner Medical Center of New Orleans for taking great care of Shannon.

Raymond Edward Martin
Raymond Edward Martin passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in Jena, Louisiana at the age of 79. He was born on Sunday, May 18, 1941 in Tickfaw, Louisiana and resided in Loranger, Louisiana. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Linda Christine and Jacqueline Rochel Martin; stepchildren, Judy Lynn, Kerry Oliver, and Elizabeth Jeanette; brother, Jerry Denny Martin; favorite nephew, Robert Martin; and his sidekick, Austin Martin. Also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife Florence Jordan Martin; parents, Clara and Sim Martin; and siblings, Ruby Wagner, Alfred Martin, Louis Martin, Earl Martin, Bobby Martin, and Hugo Martin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 12:00 pm with his nephew, Rev. John Spears, presiding. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and continue until service time. Serving as pallbearers: Anthony Martin, Austin Martin, Lance Boyd, Tyler Boyd, Trent Boyd, and Brandon LaCour.

Interment will follow in New Haven Baptist Church Cemetery, Tickfaw, Louisiana with military honors.


Ryan Carrington Martin
A beloved son, father, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, Ryan Carrington Martin of Walker, LA left this world unexpectedly. He was born May 8, 1977 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was the son of Sharon Davis Cook and Darrell Cook, Sr. of Walker, LA and Val Laverne Martin and Megale Martin of Centerville, Utah.

Ryan was fun-loving, compassionate, enjoyed watching movies and going fishing. His presence in our lives will be deeply missed.

Ryan is survived by his children, Berkley Martin Hasson (husband, Tanner), Abigail Wheat, Kohl Cowart, Ryliegh Cowart, Max Cowart, and Ruston Derrough; one grandson, Grayson Ryan Wheat; three siblings, Shawn Martin, Sean Beck (wife, Kelley) and Ryan Beck (wife, Jessica) and numerous other family members and friends.

When you think of Ryan, celebrate the good memories you have of him. A celebration of life will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Livingston, November 29th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.


Kyndal Lynn Bennett McKinney
Kyndal, age 32, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Her love of others will never be forgotten. Kyndal yearned and tried her best to reflect her love of Jesus each and every day of her earthly life. Being there to take care of whatever your needs are was her passion; a true and genuine caregiver. Kyndal loved her Lord and Savior, and on the eve of her wedding day, she was baptized. She never failed to say, ‘I Love You’ or give a big hug. She loved life to the fullest and loved her family the most. Kyndal was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend who is already dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kyndal is survived by her children, Caden Eugene McKinney and Abigayle Hope Lynn McKinney; former husband, Chad Earl McKinney; mother Melissa Bennett (stepfather Kevin Manuel, stepsister Emily); father, Bruce ‘David’ Bennett Jr. (stepmother Lisa Woody, stepbrother Michael Woody); sister, Kandyce Leigh Kidder (brother-in-law Trent Kidder); nieces, Kalyssa and Juliana Roberts; ‘Nanny’ Betty Lea; grandparents, Mary Ann Spring Hinson, Bruce Bennett Sr. and Loletta ‘Liter’ Graves; in-laws, Chester and LaHoma McKinney; sister-in-law, Faith McKinney; along with numerous extended family and dear friends.

Kyndal is preceded in death by her grandparents, Roddy Spring Sr., Mary Addie Fedele, Wilma ‘Dinky’ Foster, and Cliford ‘Seab’ McKinney Sr.

Cary Joseph Morel, Sr.
Cary Joseph Morel, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. He was born on January 8, 1958 in New Orleans, LA to Rudolph “Rudy” Morel Sr., and Dorothy Gail (Poyadou) Morel.

Cary is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Christina Young Morel. He was the father of Amanda Morel Zeller (George) and Christopher Morel (Tara). He was the loving grandfather of Allison, George, IV, the future baby Grayson Zeller, Cary Morel, III and Ariana and Kyler and Kipton Morel. He is also survived by his mother Dorothy Gail D’arcourt; his identical twin brother Gary Morel, Sr. (Vickie); his siblings Rudy Morel (Bonnie), Brenda Morel Vinti (Lee), Brian Morel (Aunt Lali), and Kelly Morel (Cindy); his brother-in-law George Young (Connie); and his sister-in-law Theresa Giambrone (Tony); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cary is preceded in death by his son Cary Joseph Morel, Jr., his father Rudy Morel; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Clare M. Young and Andrew T. Young; and his nephew Blaine Morel.

Cary never met a stranger and would offer help to anyone in need. He was the ultimate family man and loved nothing more than spending time with his “girl”, his children and grandchildren. Cary’s family extended beyond just his biological family, he was role model to many, both young and old. When he was not with his family, he spent hours with his most prized possession, his Brandy Wine Red Corvette, which he took to many car shows.

Howard "Woody" Morgan
Woody was born December 22, 1934 in Albany, LA, and passed away November 17, 2020 at age 85. He was a lifetime resident of Hammond and a member of The Church of Christ, the Hammond and Ponchatoula Lions Club, Springfield Chapter of Am Vets, and a former member of the Hammond Volunteer Fire Department. A U.S. Army veteran, Woody was a retired salesman. His favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Addison Morgan; children, Lynnette Glascock and husband Virgil, Joel Morgan and wife Christy, and Kayla Morgan; grandchildren, Brittany Rushing and husband Ryan, Garrett Glascock, Sophia Morgan and Gunnar Morgan; great grandchildchildren, Reese and River Rushing; and numerous nieces and nephews. Woody is preceded in death by his daughter, Ramona Morgan; parents, Oscar and Ruth Morgan; sisters, Iona Wagner and Yvonne Morgan; and a brother, Jerry Morgan. Visiting will be at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, Hammond, Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 10:00 am until religious services at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel conducted by Rev. Jeremy Glascock, with special remarks by Ken Johnston. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.



Kenny Dwain Morris
Kenny Dwain Morris, “Red Top” born on June 9, 1960, went to be with the Lord on November 17, 2020 at the age of 60. He was born in Shreveport and a resident of Walker. Kenny is survived by his wife, Carolyn; Children, Brian Marcus Carter of Lafayette, Tiffany Annette Jones of Gulfport, and Courtney Deshea Morris of Biloxi; Step-sons, Michael and Matthew Lynch; Grandchildren Grace, Noah, Elliot, Ason, Crimson, Alexis “Lulu”, and Brennan; Mother Charlene Morris; Step-father “Pete” Ziegler; Brothers Dudley, Hank, and Troy Morris; Sisters Cindy Macaluso, Debra Barrios, Anita Severio, and Stacy LeBlanc; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenny was full of life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had a passion for music, Elvis being his favorite. He loved to dance, especially jitterbugging with his Mother. He was also an avid football fan of LSU and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a hard worker and a dedicated manager for many years in the retail and grocery industry.

Kenny was preceded in death by his Father, Henry Frank Morris; Step-son Mitchell Lynch; Brothers Lonnie Morris and Bobby Morris; Paternal grandparents Odom and Edna Morris; and Maternal grandparents Clyde and Myrtis McAllister.

We begin to remember not that just you died, but that you lived, and that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget...Forever in Our Hearts.

Pallbearers will be his brothers, Dudley and Hank, Jason LeBlanc, Bo Williamson, Brick Allen, and Jeremy Morris.

Services will be conducted by Pastor Herman Holland of New Day Christian Centre in Walker. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Saturday from 5:00-7:00 with services following at 7:00. There will be a graveside service on Sunday at 11:00 in Evergreen Memorial, located behind Seale Funeral Home.


Duane Shafer
Duane Shafer, 91 joined his beautiful wife Catherine in Heaven on November 18, 2020 in Hammond, LA.

Duane was born in Lacon, IL on May 31, 1929. He has resided in Hammond, La since 1956. He was a retired businessman and the owner of Carr Office Environments where he worked side by side with his wife for over 40 years. Duane was very involved in his community and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hammond. He was also a long-time member of the Hammond Jaycees, the Hammond Rotary Club, the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, and the Istrouma Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He served with several local, parish and statewide organizations in an effort to improve the environment in which he raised his family and operated his business. He was a very dedicated father and grandfather and was always involved in his son's and grandchildren's many activities.

Duane is survived by his son Richard Duane Shafer and his wife Leigh, his grandchildren, Laurie Elizabeth, Mary Addie and Bradford Price Shafer, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

Preceding Duane in death were his parents, Peter and Emma Shafer, brother Dean, Brother Jay and wife Ruth, brother Wendell and wife Rosalie, sister Francis and husband Elmer Alton, and sister Joyce and husband Bill Anderson.

Due to the pandemic, a small private service will be held on November 21, 2020 at Brandon G Thompson Funeral Home in Hammond, LA with interment to follow at Holly Gardens Cemetery.

Special thanks to Mrs. Angie Pena who cared for Duane and his wife Catherine for many years.
Also, thanks to the staff and administration at Landmark Nursing Center of Hammond, LA who saw to his needs during a very trying time to Modern Hospice who cared for him during his final days.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Richard Murphy Hospice House and/or the Ginger Ford Fuller Center for Housing.



Shelia Marie Sharp
Shelia Marie Sharp passed away on November 19, 2020 in Covington, LA at the age of 57.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Sharp. She is also survived by numerous family members and friends.

She was preceded by her husband, Rodney Sharp; her father, Edward Sharp, Sr.; and her son, Timothy Komeroski.

Services celebrating her life will be held at Nobles Cemetery on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Dennis Allen will officiate. Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with her arrangements. 


Brian 'Captain B' Sullivan
Brian, age 40, passed away November 16, 2020. Brian earned his nickname ‘Captain B’ working as a skilled Captain of Tow Boats on the Mississippi River. Brain never stopped looking for opportunities to have fun. He was an outgoing loving man. On dry land, Brian drove his favorite car, his bumble-bee Camaro. At home, Brian’s furry child, Willow, was always there to greet him. Brian was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend who is already dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Brian is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Katherine Sullivan; former wife, Crystal Morgan; brother, Jason Sullivan; friend as close a brother, Felix Singleton; sister, Kay Suzanne Niehauz and husband Nick; nieces, Kaitlyn and Candace Sullivan; nephews, Nick, Luke, and Noah Sparks, and Cameron Bankston; and significant other, Kim Booti.

Mary Lou Taylor
Mary Lou Taylor age 70, of Covington passed away Friday morning, November 13, 2020. She was born on December 30, 1949 in Covington, Louisiana to Henry White and Mary Phillips.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years John Taylor, her children Johnny Taylor and Denise Taylor Bellendorf (Ryan), her 5 grandchildren Johnny Taylor, Brice Taylor, Nylia Bellendorf, Jayden Bellendorf, and Aaron Bellendorf. She is also survived by loving sisters Louise Williams (Gene) and Lorriane Snowden. A special thanks to her Aunt Ella Mae Selmon, who was always there when needed.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents Henry White and Mary Phillips, her sister Shirley Phillip and brothers Joseph Ducre and Louis H. Frederick.

A native of Covington and a lifelong resident of Goodbee for the past 50 years. Mary retired in 2017 after working for Walmart Super center in Covington for over 20 years. She enjoyed greeting and helping guest, while working with her Walmart family. Mary enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the country. Her true passion was spending time outdoors with her family. Mary was loving, kind, and stern, a woman who will be missed by all that knew her.

Edward Frank Zalot
Edward Frank Zalot passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. He was born on February 9, 1950 in Hadley, MA to Frank and Marion (Kokowski) Zalot.

Edward is survived by his best friend and the mother of his children, Lynne Pittman; his daughters Jessica Zalot, Elizabeth Cusimano (Jacobi) and Danna O’Pezio Collins (Patrick); and his grandchildren Matthew DeCossas, Jack Collins, Emily Canales and Catherine DeCossas. He is also survived by his sisters J.M. Stowe, Kristine Waskiewicz, and Joanie Fish; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Edward is preceded in death by his grandson Robert “Bobby” Collins and his parents.

Edward Zalot was a family man first and foremost. He loved his work at Traylor Brothers, but in the last few years asked to be located in New Orleans area jobs to be close to his kids and grandchildren who he loved like no other. They were and always will be his world.

Services will be held privately by the family.

  Press Release from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office: A Slidell-area man is wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred Tuesday (November 17) night near Slidell. At approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2100 block of Bluebird Street in reference to gunshots. Pedestrian struck by train in Hammond

           Press Release from Hammond Police: November 21, 2020, City of Hammond, LA — On November 20, 2020, at approximately 11:41 pm, the Hammond Police Department began investigating a pedestrian hit by a train at the 100 block of North Cate Street.   The victim was identified as Ridge Michael Melancon, 25, of Gramercy. Witnesses stated they believe he was attempting to place a quarter on the railroad tracks when he was struck by the train. Melancon was pronounced deceased on the scene.  The investigation is ongoing.
